The Slipway Wire

The slipway gathers grey and salt Before the winter turns to spring We mend the nets without a fault And listen to the rigging sing Low water mark along the bay The stones are bare beneath the grey We watch the lantern on the quay Turn slow across the rising sea A copper kettle on the stove The daylight fading on the floor The quiet harbor in the cove Keeps shadow at the cellar door
